Day Drag Test & Tune - 2/28/2004 - Englishtown,NJ It was Englishtown's openning day and I went out
to test my new setup. We installed the Precision Industries torque
converter and the FJO wideband 02 datalogging kit. It was now time to test them out: |
Racing parameters: date: 2/28/2004 track: Englishtown,NJ elvevation: 86 ft air temp: ~70 F humid: ~70% barometer: ~30.1 total racing weight: 3630 lbs w/ driver(140 lbs) & accessories in trunk fuel: 112 octane race gas, 1/4 tank wheels/tires: 15x7.0 Volk TE-37's w/ 275 wide BFG drag radials @ 23 psi air 12.52 @ 110 run: 60 ft time: 1.91 launch boost: n/a launch rpm: 2530, using foot brakes only boost controller: set=65, gain=15 peak boost: 15 psi shift points: "D" drive w/ overdrive "OFF" AFC changes: no change NOTES: Just a low boost shake down pass. Uneventful. But I forgot to press RECORD on the Defi gauges. Sorry no boost movie. Also, notice the A/F raio is super rich. 12.20 @ 113 run: 60 ft time: 1.81 launch boost: n/a launch rpm: 2770, using foot brakes & e-brake handle boost controller: set=80, gain=15 peak boost: ~18 psi shift points: "D" drive w/ overdrive "OFF" AFC changes: no change NOTES: Turned up the boost to what I normally run on 112 race gas. And this time I used the e-brake handle to get a higher launch. But I didn't go too high yet. And on the launch, I didn't drop the e-brake right away. So it must have held the car back slightly. But I still got a 1.81 60 foot time. And no AFC changes. 0% across the rpm range. Again, super rich in the upper rpms. And I forgot to record the gauges again. 12.35 @ 113 run: 60 ft time: 1.95 launch boost: n/a launch rpm: 3040, using foot brakes & e-brake handle boost controller: set=80, gain=15 peak boost: ~18 psi shift points: "D" drive w/ overdrive "OFF" AFC changes: 4000 rpm -> 7000 rpm: 3% leaner NOTES: I leaned out the A/F in the upper rpms for this run. But unfortunately I spun out the hole. I did a medium size burnout. And as I rolled up to the staging lanes, the started stopeed me half way cause the car ahead of me dripped fluid down the first 50 feet right down the center of the car lane. He spent 5 minutes cleaning it up and my tires got cold. Therefore, I spun off the line w/ a worse 1.95 60 foot time. If you put in my 1.81 60 foot time in place, that would have been at least a 12.21. And if you use the rules that a 0.10 gain in the 60 foot mean a 0.20 gain in the elapsed time, then that would have been a 12.1 run. And also, notice the improvement in the A/F ratio. 12.47 @ 114 run: 60 ft time: 2.16 launch boost: 6 psi launch rpm: 3010, using foot brakes & e-brake handle 14 psi boost @ rpm: 3740 boost controller: set=80, gain=15 peak boost: 18.5 ps shift points: "D" drive w/ overdrive "OFF" AFC changes: 4000 rpm -> 7000 rpm: 5% leaner NOTES: I leaned it out even more. This time 5% leaner from baseline zero % on the AFC. But I blew my launch. I took the rpms to 3100 and the rear wheels started spinning. And the car lurched forward and broke the starting beam. I backed off the gas all the way to 2460 rpms and quickly got the rpms back up to 3000 and quickly launched. By the time I got to the 60 foot mark, it was a crappy 2.16 time. Again, if you swap in the 1.81 60 foot time, it would net a 12.12 run. But I did gain another mph to now a 114 with the even better A/F. That might have been an 11 sec run! Also, I have a movie of the boost & rpm playback from the Defi gauges. I remembered this time. |
